Prescription Medicine Policy

This Prescription Medicine Policy forms part of the ClarifaiOnline.co.za Website Terms and Conditions.

ClarifaiOnline.co.za is operated by Tridev (Pty) Ltd trading as Mere-Ridge Pharmacy (“Mere-Ridge Pharmacy”, “Clarifai Online”, “we”, “our”, or “us”).

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy is committed to dispensing medicines responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with applicable South African healthcare and pharmacy legislation.

By submitting a prescription, purchasing prescription medicine, or using pharmacy services through ClarifaiOnline.co.za, you acknowledge and agree to this Prescription Medicine Policy.

1. Prescription Requirements

Prescription-only medicines may only be dispensed upon receipt of a valid prescription issued by a registered and appropriately authorised healthcare practitioner.

Prescriptions must:

  • comply with applicable South African legal and regulatory requirements;
  • contain accurate patient and prescriber information;
  • remain valid and within the legally permitted dispensing period;
  • and be clinically appropriate for dispensing.

2. Prescription Verification

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy reserves the right to:

  • verify prescriptions with the prescribing practitioner;
  • request additional information or documentation;
  • delay processing pending verification;
  • or refuse dispensing where concerns arise regarding legality, authenticity, patient safety, or regulatory compliance.

Prescriptions that are:

  • expired;
  • altered;
  • incomplete;
  • suspected to be fraudulent;
  • or clinically inappropriate

may be rejected or referred for additional review.

3. Clinical Oversight and Pharmacist Review

All prescription medicine dispensing remains subject to pharmacist review and professional clinical oversight.

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy reserves the right to:

  • request clarification from prescribers;
  • review possible medicine interactions or contraindications;
  • recommend additional counselling or clinical consultation;
  • or decline dispensing where patient safety concerns exist.

4. Electronic and Uploaded Prescriptions

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy may accept electronic prescriptions, uploaded prescriptions, scanned prescriptions, or digital prescription submissions where legally permissible.

Submission of a prescription electronically does not guarantee acceptance or dispensing.

Original prescriptions may still be required where applicable under South African law or professional pharmacy standards.

5. Prescription Ownership and Retention

Prescriptions submitted to Mere-Ridge Pharmacy may be:

  • stored electronically;
  • retained for regulatory recordkeeping purposes;
  • or processed in accordance with healthcare, pharmacy, and legal obligations.

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy retains records in accordance with applicable legislation and professional requirements.

6. Prescription Medicine Availability

Prescription medicines remain subject to:

  • stock availability;
  • supplier availability;
  • regulatory restrictions;
  • clinical appropriateness;
  • and pharmacist approval.

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy does not guarantee continuous availability of any medicine or product.

7. Prescription Medicine Deliveries

Delivery of prescription medicines may require:

  • identity verification;
  • signature upon delivery;
  • proof of prescription;
  • or direct receipt by the patient or authorised representative.

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy reserves the right to withhold or delay delivery where additional verification is required.

8. Medicine Substitution

Where legally permissible and clinically appropriate, generic or equivalent substitution may occur in accordance with applicable South African pharmacy regulations.

Where substitution is not permitted, Mere-Ridge Pharmacy will endeavour to contact the patient or prescribing practitioner where appropriate.

9. Prescription Medicine Returns

Due to health, safety, and regulatory requirements, prescription medicines may not be returned once:

  • dispensed;
  • delivered;
  • collected;
  • or removed from the pharmacy supply chain.

Exceptions may apply where required by law or where products are defective, incorrectly supplied, or subject to recall procedures.

All returns remain subject to the Mere-Ridge Pharmacy Refunds & Returns Policy.

10. Patient Responsibilities

Patients are responsible for:

  • providing accurate and complete information;
  • submitting valid prescriptions;
  • reviewing medicine instructions and patient information;
  • consulting healthcare professionals where required;
  • and ensuring medicines are used only as prescribed.

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy shall not be responsible for misuse of medicines contrary to professional medical advice or prescribed instructions.

11. Regulatory Compliance

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy dispenses medicines in accordance with:

  • the Medicines and Related Substances Act;
  • the Pharmacy Act;
  • South African Pharmacy Council requirements;
  • and all applicable healthcare and pharmacy regulations.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mere-Ridge Pharmacy shall not be liable for:

  • delays caused by prescription verification processes;
  • prescriber-related delays or inaccuracies;
  • stock shortages beyond reasonable control;
  • or misuse of medicines contrary to prescribed instructions or professional advice.

Nothing in this Policy excludes liability where prohibited by South African law.

13. Amendments to this Policy

Mere-Ridge Pharmacy reserves the right to amend this Prescription Medicine Policy at any time.

Updated versions will be published on the website and become effective upon publication.
